The Lieblich Youth Orchestra, which has delivered hope to underprivileged youth through music, is reaching a new turning point as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The orchestra announced that it will host a "Scholarship Support Concert" on the 27th at the Lieblich Art Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. This event is expected to be a platform to share the achievements of the free music education provided over the past two decades and to declare a sustainable sponsorship model for the future. Two prominent figures who have practiced social responsibility in the medical and legal fields have joined as co-chairmen of the sponsorship committee, adding significant weight to the event. Notably, from the legal community, Attorney Ha Kwang-ryong, the managing partner of Law Firm Taekwang and a former Presiding Judge, has pledged his support.
Attorney Ha Kwang-ryong and Dr. Joo Hye-ran currently serve as the co-chairmen of the sponsorship committee. "If the law is a tool of reason to resolve conflicts, music is a power of emotion that heals and revives the human heart," said Co-chairman Ha Kwang-ryong. He emphasized, "I will provide unstinting institutional support to ensure that the dedication Lieblich has demonstrated for 20 years does not stop."
Dr. Joo Hye-ran, who shares the chairmanship, was the youngest female director of a public health center in Korea. Drawing from her medical experience, she has long advocated for the necessity of music for the emotional recovery of the underprivileged and is actively leading this event.
Over the past 20 years, the Lieblich Youth Orchestra has moved beyond being a simple educational institution to present a model of a "cultural community" that shares warmth with the local neighborhood. For example, they provide full-time free private lessons and ensemble sessions with professional professors once or twice a week. Their "Mandu-guk (Dumpling Soup) Concert" received high praise for serving warm meals to local residents alongside performances.
In addition, they regularly conduct "outreach volunteer work," providing food and music for free through the talent donations of performers and their own funding. These activities have been sustained by the dedication of Representative Joo Jae-ryeon and the voluntary participation of musicians since a time when external support was non-existent. The practice room located on Gingorang-ro in Gwangjin-gu currently serves as the headquarters for these sharing efforts.
A local resident who attended a Lieblich performance shared, "I found comfort through the music; it was my first time experiencing such a special sharing where food and melody harmonized." Such activities, which seep into the daily lives of people beyond the stage, are recognized for their sincerity in the community.
Building on these 20 years of practice, Lieblich organized this "Scholarship Support Night" to establish a more systematic support system. An official sponsorship committee centered around the co-chairmen will be formed through this event, marking a crucial opportunity to secure operational stability and expand the scope of their support.
Representative Joo Jae-ryeon, who has led the orchestra even at the cost of her private funds, emphasized "If the past was a journey of enduring alone out of a sense of mission, I hope the future will be a time of moving forward with those who share the same vision. We will continue to create more moments where a child's life is transformed through music."
