Singapore Embassy Recommends “Homerun” (2003) for the 2025 Incheon
International Folk Film Festival

The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore has recommended “Homerun”
(2003), a film depicting traditional values and family spirit, for the 2025 Incheon
International Folk Film Festival (IIFFF), which will be held from June 27 to 29.
Directed by renowned Singaporean filmmaker Jack Neo, “Homerun” is set in 1965
during Singapore’s early years of independence. The film tells the heartfelt story of a
brother and sister who share a single pair of shoes as they struggle through poverty.
Their bond, determination, and perseverance reflect the enduring values of family,
community, and hope.
His Excellency Eric TEO, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the Republic of
Korea, shared his congratulations on the occasion of the festival:
“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations on the hosting of the 2025 Incheon
International Folk Film Festival. This meaningful event celebrates the beauty of our
diverse cultural heritages and reminds us that tradition forms the foundation of our
future. I am delighted that “Homerun”, a Singaporean film that reflects the values of
family, resilience, and community spirit, has been recommended for this festival. I wish
the festival great success in fostering deeper understanding and friendship among
countries.”
The recommendation from the Singapore Embassy aligns closely with the theme of this
year’s festival, “Tradition is the Future”, which aims to showcase films that celebrate
traditional culture, folk heritage, and the importance of family across the world.
The IIFFF Organizing Committee expressed its gratitude, stating:
““Homerun” is a deeply moving work that portrays poverty, resilience, family love, and
the spirit of community. We sincerely thank the Singapore Embassy for this meaningful
recommendation and look forward to sharing this touching film with audiences in Korea
and around the globe.”
The 1st Incheon International Folk Film Festival will take place at the International
Seafood Town K-Center in Incheon’s Yeonan Pier, opening with a ceremony on June
27. The event will also feature traditional cultural performances, a global folk costume
parade, Hanbok experience programs, and more.

주대한민국 싱가포르 대사관은 2025 인천국제민속영화제(IIFFF)의 공식 추천작으로 전통적 가치와 가족의 정신을 담은 영화 《홈런》(2003)을 선정했다고 밝혔습니다. 이번 영화제는 2025년 6월 27일부터 30일까지 인천에서 개최됩니다.
싱가포르의 저명한 영화감독 잭 니오(Jack Neo)가 연출한 《홈런》은 싱가포르 독립 초기인 1965년을 배경으로, 가난 속에서 단 한 켤레의 신발을 나누어 신으며 살아가는 남매의 이야기를 그립니다. 이 작품은 가족애, 공동체 정신, 그리고 역경을 이겨내는 의지를 통해 전통적 가치와 희망을 감동적으로 담아내고 있습니다.
주대한민국 싱가포르 대사 은 영화제 개최를 축하하며 다음과 같이 메시지를 전했습니다.

인천국제민속영화제 조직위원회는 이에 대해 감사의 뜻을 전하며 다음과 같이 밝혔습니다.
