2025 인천국제마라톤 결승선에서 포착된 장면을 두고 온라인에서
‘과도한 신체접촉’ 논란이 확산되자, 김완기 삼척시청 육상팀 감독이 직접 입장을 밝혔다.
그는 “선수를 잡아준 행동은 성추행이 아니라 부상 방지를 위한 보호 조치였다”고 해명했다.
“여자 선수들 완주 직후 자주 쓰러져… 잡아준 것뿐”
김 감독은 여러 언론을 통해 “마라톤에서 여자 선수들은 결승선을 통과하고 나면 탈진으로 주저앉는 경우가 많다”며 “넘어져 다치는 상황을 막기 위해 수건을 걸쳐주며 상체를 잡아준 것”이라고 설명했다.
그는 당시 상황을 다음과 같이 전했다.
“이수민 선수가 비틀거려서 뒤에서 지지해준 것이다. 수건을 감싸는 과정에서 명치 부분이 눌려 선수도 순간적으로 불편해했을 수 있다. 그러나 성적 의도는 전혀 없었다.”
“선수 본인도 ‘성추행 아니다’ 오해가 부풀려졌다”
삼척시 관계자 역시 선수에게 직접 확인한 결과,
“성추행은 아니며, 완주 직후 체력이 떨어져 순간적으로 불편함을 느꼈을 뿐”이라는 입장을 들었다고 밝혔다.
이 관계자는 “선수와 지도자 모두 현장에서 최선을 다했지만 장면이 짧게 편집·확산되며 오해가 커졌다”고 말했다.

논란의 출발점은 SNS에 올라온 결승선 화면 캡처였다.
일부 이용자들이“손이 허리 아래로 내려간 듯 보인다”
“선수가 밀쳐내는 동작이 보인다”
등의 의견을 제기하며 파장이 커졌다.
반면 많은 마라톤 커뮤니티에서는
“여자 선수는 결승선 직후 지지해주는 경우가 흔하다”

이어 “선수 보호는 감독의 가장 기본적인 역할이라며 “이번 일을 계기로 더 안전하고 투명한 팀 문화를 만들겠다”고 덧붙였다.

“Runner Lee Soo-min staggered, so I supported her from behind. During the process of placing the towel, the area around her chest may have been pressed briefly, which could have caused momentary discomfort. But there was absolutely no sexual intent.”
“The athlete herself said, ‘It was not sexual harassment’ — the issue was exaggerated online”
A Samcheok City official who checked directly with the athlete confirmed:
“It was not sexual harassment. She was exhausted after finishing and momentarily felt uncomfortable due to her weakened condition.”
The official added, “Both the athlete and the coach acted appropriately on site, but a short, edited clip spread online and fueled misunderstanding.”
Online ‘controversy’ vs. on-site ‘standard safety practice’
The controversy began with a finish-line screenshot posted on social media. Some users commented:
“It looks like his hand moved below her waist,”
“It seems like the athlete tried to push him away.”
These comments triggered rapid online debate.
However, many marathon community members countered:
“It’s common for female runners to be supported immediately after finishing,”
“No coach would commit intentional misconduct in front of cameras,”
“It seems the act of placing the towel caused the misunderstanding.”
