밝은성모안과 금지은 대표원장이 국제실명구호기구 비전케어(Vision Care)가 진행한
해외 의료봉사 ‘비전아이캠프’에 참여해 모로코 팅기르(Tinghir) 지역 주민들을 위한 안과 진료 및 백내장 수술 지원 활동을 펼쳤다.
이번 의료봉사는 지난 5월 3일부터 9일까지 6일간 진행됐으며, 현지 의료 인프라 부족으로 적절한 치료를 받지 못했던 주민들을 대상으로 안과 진료와 수술이 이뤄졌다.
특히 치료가 가능함에도 경제적 어려움과 열악한 의료 환경으로 오랜 시간 시력을 잃은 채 살아가는 환자들이 많아 현장 의료진들의 안타까움을 더했다.
밝은성모안과 금지은 대표원장은 캠프 기간 동안 진료 및 수술에 집중하며 총 855명의 현지 주민 진료에 참여했으며, 이 중 222명의 백내장 환자들에게 수술을 진행해 시력 회복의 기회를 제공했다.
단순한 의료 지원을 넘어 현지 의료진 교육에도 힘을 보탰다. 금지은 대표원장은 대한민국의 안과 수술 노하우와 백내장·사시 수술 기법 등을 현지 의료진과 공유하며, 봉사 이후에도 지속 가능한 안보건 시스템이 유지될 수 있도록 협력했다.
금지은 대표원장은 “일시적인 도움을 주는 것에 그치지 않고, 현지 의료진이 스스로 환자를 치료하고 또 다른 의료진을 양성할 수 있도록 돕는 것이 진정한 의료봉사라고 생각한다”며 “기술뿐 아니라 마음까지 나누는 의료 활동을 계속 이어가고 싶다”고 전했다.
한편 밝은성모안과는 국내 시력교정술 및 백내장 진료뿐 아니라 해외 의료봉사와 사회공헌 활동에도 지속적으로 참여하며 의료 나눔 활동을 이어가고 있다.

Dr. Keum Ji-eun, Director of BSM EYE CLINIC in Korea, participated in the overseas medical volunteer program “Vision Eye Camp” organized by the international blindness relief organization Vision Care. During the mission, Dr. Keum provided ophthalmology treatment and cataract surgeries for residents in Tinghir, Morocco.
The medical outreach program took place from May 3 to May 9 and focused on patients who had limited access to proper eye care due to poor medical infrastructure and financial hardship.
Many local residents had been living with preventable blindness for years simply because they could not afford treatment or did not have access to ophthalmology services. The reality deeply moved the participating medical staff.
During the six-day mission, Dr. Keum Ji-eun and the BSM EYE CLINIC team participated in medical consultations for 855 local residents and successfully performed cataract surgeries on 222 patients, helping restore their vision and improve their quality of life.
Beyond providing temporary medical assistance, the mission also focused on sustainable healthcare development. Dr. Keum shared advanced Korean ophthalmic surgery techniques, including cataract and strabismus surgery methods, with local medical professionals to help strengthen the region’s long-term eye care system.
